Welcome!

nwgreencampus.org

Campus environmental activism began well before hybrid cars or a hit movie by Al Gore. Many colleges and universities have designated wilderness areas dating back to the founding of the institution, and efforts in the 60’s and 70’s are evident in every campus recycling bin. With the resources to research new technologies, and the opportunity to shape the living practices of young citizens, colleges and universities are quickly recognizing their role as leaders in the current "sustainability" movement.  One of the focuses of this movement is climate change, which directly relates to individual and institutional energy use.

nwgreencampus.org provides an overview of energy related campus sustainability topics, and is intended to facilitate the growth of the college and university "green energy" movement in the Pacific Northwest.

Collaboration between Colleges and Universities: Northwest Campuses

In addition to providing general information about green energy topics, the site is designed to facilitate networking between Pacific Northwest Campuses.  Through the CONTACT US portion of the site, we can set up a page for your campus, allowing your efforts to be shared with any visitor.  Aside from writing a blurb you can also advertise events, publish minutes, or post just about anything that relates to your campus sustainability efforts! We're here to help you post so no experience is needed.

First Steps for Change: Activist Toolkit

Forming strong relationships between campus stakeholders (students, faculty, alumni, facilities management, and other staff and administrators) is one of the best ways to initiate change and build a successful campaign. Within a campus community's diversity exists the enthusiasm to lift a project off the ground, and the knowledge and experience to make deep change.  The Activist Toolkit portion of this website features a number of different guides from youth activist organizations. The organizing skills outlined in these guides, combined with dedication, openness to creative ideas, and respect for differing opinions, will strengthen a campaign’s momentum.  If you are interested in starting your own campaign and would like to be supported by Northwest SEED through an internship please view our internship description and apply.

Special "thanks" to Felicia Gray, 2006 Green Campus Summer Intern from Earlham College.  Felicia developed much of the website content...the site would not have been completed without her skills!
